    Fossil Cycad
    Brushy Basin Member
    Morrison Formation
    Utah, USA

This huge fossil cycad is without question a collector piece and features a stark duality of a polished face and natural exterior. The taupe 'window' with its crystalline cavity looks like typical Petrified Wood, and the rugged 'skin' wrapping around the core of the piece offers an ideal representation of cycad material. This large and spectacular example of Cycadeoidea dates to the Jurassic often referred to as the "Age of Cycads" when the unique plants dominated the landscape. Modern cycads can be considered somewhat of a 'living fossil' since they are so similar to their prehistoric forms. This giant specimen weighs a robust 75 pounds (34 kilograms) and is an incredibly impactful display fossil. Cycad enthusiasts, and there are a serious group of collectors of the unique variety out there, should be intrigued by this monster example.
