Fossil foliage is difficult to preserve due to the delicate nature of leaves and the fact that they tend to decay quickly. This specimen demonstrates just how delicate plant material tends to be; this fossil leaf is likely from the Philodendron family and ripped along the mid-rib from the apex and folded over before it was buried and fossilized. The leaf is so well preserved that individual fibers can be seen throughout parts of the specimen and the folds of the leaf are obvious. The fossil leaf measures 9½ x 6 inches and rests on a matrix measuring 15 x 11 inches.
