Description

Woolly Mammoth Tusk
Mammuthus primigenius
Pleistocene
Yukon Territory, Canada

Large and decorative, this Woolly Mammoth Tusk is quite spectacular for numerous reasons. The massive example measuring over 50 inches (127 cm) boasts mottled coloration, featuring hues of gold, tan, brown, cream, and black, which is prominent in sizable patches near the tip. The tusk is wonderfully curvaceous, measuring nearly 70 inches (178 cm) on the curve and offers a striated patterning that really makes it visually striking. As an added bonus, there is some secondary, ornamental carving near the open end of the specimen. In terms of restoration, this offering has been repaired and restored twice, as the tip has been repaired. A unique, proprietary method involving an epoxy fill resulted in one sturdy and heavy specimen. Presented on a burwood base customized to display the tusk in most dramatic form, the substantial fossil from the Dawson Goldfields of the Yukon Territory in westernmost Canada is one naturally artistic evolved tooth with significant curvature. The mounting presents the nice tusk in a seriously impactful, vertical orientation, with the specimen actually pointing down and curving as it would have been in life. This is one very intriguing and interesting representation of Mammuthus primigenius, which can function as a major centerpiece in any room or environment. The offering is a showpiece with an incredible story to tell.
Tusk Measurements: 50.79 x 17.72 x 5.51 inches (129.00 x 45.00 x 14.00 cm)
