Description

Woolly Mammoth Tusk
Mammuthus primigenius
Pleistocene
Alaska, USA

The curvature of this Alaskan Mammoth Tusk is near perfect and gives the naturally sculptural piece an immense amount of character. The mottled surface of the polished specimen exudes color and pattern, with shades of brown, hues of cream and accents of bluish-green resulting in a lively example that dates to the "Ice Age" when such majestic mammalian beasts shared the planet with humans who might have hastened their disappearance by hunting the prehistoric elephantine creatures to extinction. Presented on a custom wood stand to allow for vertical presentation to maximize the drama of the piece, this tusk makes an ideal collector specimen. The smooth surface has only minor indications of compressions and restoration, which make it a superlative example. Form and quality combine to make this a top offering.
Overall Measurements: 30.50 x 16.00 x 13.00 inches (77.47 x 40.64 x 33.02 cm)
