Description
Woolly Mammoth Tooth SphereMammuthus primigenius
Pleistocene
Siberia
With a diameter of slightly over 2 inches (5 cm), this small sphere is not sizable but certainly is quite dramatic. The polished ball with incredible and vivid patterning represents Woolly Mammoth dentition out of the Pleistocene of Siberia, Russia. Various shades of brown, coupled with accents of blue, make this slick, round offering very visually appealing. Roughly one-quarter of the fossilized orb is much lighter in color, lacking the darker and blue tones, but the majority is vibrant and rather intense. While teeth of Mammuthus primigenius are often cut and fashioned into any number of an assortment of interesting items like knife handles, spheres of such material are not readily seen for acquisition. Given the inherent "loss" of material when cutting and polishing, it certainly makes sense; nonetheless, this is one spectacular fossil out of the Pleistocene in a compact size with an expert shape and polish.
Measurements: 2.17 inches (5.50 cm) in diameter
