Description

SPECTACULAR MAMMOTH TUSK
Mammuthus primigenius
Pleistocene
Siberia, Russia

A stupendous tusk from one of the most stupendous mammals ever to have walked the earth - just looking at this specimen, one can imagine the size of the beast from which it came, truly worthy of the name mammoth. It exhibits the classic double curve found only in the tusks of the mammoth, with a good tip and a superb thick and heavy root section. The natural cream color of this aged ivory tusk acts as a perfect contrast to the green, blue and brown patination that so decoratively streaks its length. These superb colors are caused by the presence of iron phosphates and other minerals. This outstanding example of this popular Ice Age relic measures a hefty 16ΒΌ inches around the widest girth and an impressive 8 feet in length along the outside curve. Comes complete with a wooden display stand.
