Description
Woolly Mammoth Skin with HairMammuthus primigenius
Pleistocene
Yakutia, Siberia
1.57 x 0.91 x 0.68 inches (4.00 x 2.31 x 1.72 cm)
Preserved in Siberian permafrost for thousands of years, this remarkable section of Woolly Mammoth skin retains a dense covering of coarse tawny hair. Fibrous strands remain visibly intertwined across the surface, offering a rare and tangible connection to one of the "Ice Age's" most iconic mammals, Mammuthus primigenius. The section of hide displays natural texture and thickness, with areas of dark, mineral-stained tissue contrasting against lighter, straw-colored hair. Such preservation occurs only under exceptional frozen conditions, where cold and arid environments slow organic decay. Authentic and evocative, this specimen represents a direct physical remnant from the Pleistocene Epoch.
Estimate: $300 - up.
