Description

Fossil Rabbit
Prolagus sp.
Pliocene
Sardinia, Italy

This well-preserved fossil specimen represents Prolagus sp., an extinct genus of small lagomorphs closely related to modern pikas. Originating from Pliocene deposits in Sardinia, Italy, Prolagus is notable for its insular evolution and offers valuable insights into island paleofauna. The nearly complete skeleton is carefully mounted in a shallow wood frame and set within a faux matrix for display, with the delicate bones artfully articulated to reflect the animal's natural posture. Accompanying the specimen is the original collection label, enhancing its documentation and historical provenance.
Overall Measurements: 12.75 x 9.50 x 1.5 inches (32.39 x 24.13 x 3.81 cm)

Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern California Collector
