Ice Age Cave Bear: The Giant Beast That Terrified Ancient Humans
First Edition
Part of the iconic megafauna of the Pleistocene, the Cave Bear of the variety, Ursus spelaeus, was a formidable creature of its time. Ending their reign some 24,000 years ago, the Cave Bears in what is today Romania went extinct, likely due to factors including competition from humans for the caves they inhabited. The largest of all bears, and looking suitably ferocious, such animals had a primarily herbivorous diet. A true Cave Bear, this specimen is quite visually intimidating, especially given that the skull alone measures an impressive 21.5 inches (54.6 cm). Fully mounted on a custom armature of black metal, the fossilized skeleton somehow exhibits a 'lifelike' appearance. Towering some 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall, the "Ice Age" monster makes an impactful statement and is sure to be a centerpiece in any suitable setting. The overall condition of the fossil is very good, with its golden bones showing rich color representative of its age. This is a top-quality example of Ursus spelaeus ready to display. This fossil comes with a First Edition book, Ice Age Cave Bear: The Giant Beast That Terrified Ancient Humans, by Barbara Hehner. The illustrated hardcover exhibits minor wear, especially to the jacket.
