Description

Fossil Bison Skull
Bison bison
Pleistocene
Arkansas River, Oklahoma, USA

Magnificent and majestic, this "Ice Age" fossil is beyond impressive. This example of Bison bison dating to the Pleistocene from the Arkansas River in Oklahoma is solid and fairly complete. While there is no lower jaw to this specimen, the upper jaw boasts outstanding horn cores, exceptional teeth, and overall excellent coloration, with striking hues ranging from light and dark brown to tan. This fossil is a supreme bison skull for a dramatic display. A significant bonus feature of this prehistoric offering is the presence of butchering marks on the hard, bony crown of the skull, which would be indicative of slaughter, or post-mortem activity, by humans. The spread between the horn cores is in excess of 25 inches (63.5 cm), and the elongated skull measures over 23 inches (58 cm) front to back. This superlative fossil bison skull is in superb condition and basically presents in the same manner as when it was discovered.
Measurements: 25.39 x 23.23 x 9.45 inches (64.50 x 59.00 x 24.00 cm)
