This rather robust example of an ancient bison skull represents the Bison bison variety and dates of the Pleistocene Epoch out of Oklahoma. The massive, mottled brownish specimen is fairly complete, at least for the upper part of a skull, and displays intact horn cores, big eye sockets, and nice preservation over its considerable exterior surface area. A lighter-colored patch of sorts adds contrast to the skull, as it is located in the center of the crown. The top of the skull also evidences cut markings potentially when it was initially hunted. The open snout is deep and dramatic, while the underside has a few teeth in place as well as a complete palate. This rustic, decorative, and highly authentic-looking skull is just about 'as western as it gets' and one of the larger and finer examples of the type likely to be seen.
