While often misrepresented as true Cave Bear material, fossils from the Ursus uralensis are not actually from cave-dwelling bears and, therefore, are not true Cave Bear specimens. The prehistoric bears were more of an extinct version of the modern day Grizzly Bear. The fossilized mandible from one such bear has the characteristics of material from a past geologic epoch with a golden-brown coloration over the entirety of the well-preserved and porous bony jaw section. The highlight for this fossil piece has to be the intact teeth in the jaw section including the large canine at the end of the bone so characteristic of bear dentition. The large tooth is fairly well worn possibly an indication the bear was advanced in age.
