Description

    Small Fossil Fish Sculpture
    Diplomystus sp. and Knightia sp.
    Eocene
    Green River Formation
    Lincoln County, Wyoming, USA

This irregular brick of rock from the famous Green River Formation of Wyoming has been drilled to sit on a heavy metal custom base. The brick features a larger fossil fish on one side and three smaller fossil fish on the other. The piece can be rotated as the rock swivels on the post of the base. The larger fossil fish is a Diplomystus which measures 8.25 inches (20.96 cm) in length and exhibits excellent preservation, with a pronounced spinal column among the rest of its well-defined bony skeleton. The opposite face shows three smaller fish of the common Knightia variety. The matrix rock has some slanted linear patterns and displays areas of tan, gray and pink. This is a great fossil inlay which has been mounted to make a rather unique display specimen decoratively appealing on two sides. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
    Overall Measurements: 14 x 4 x 15.5 inches (35.56 x 10.16 x 39.37 cm)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]

    Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000.
