Description
Megalodon Shark ToothOtodus megalodon
Miocene
Intercoastal Waterway
Near Savannah, Georgia, USA
Not only is this fossilized shark tooth truly massive, measuring over 5.75 inches (14.6 cm), on edge, but the spectacular specimen is wonderfully complete with an outstanding preserved blade, bourlette, and root structure, as well as superb fine serrations over both edges of the tapered enamel. Several "inky" patches of black mark the otherwise grayish blade with a subtle curving shape indicative the tooth was just slightly off center in the jaw. The Otodus megalodon is visually impressive and is one excellent representation of a huge "Meg" tooth. The sinister example of chondrichthyan dentition is rather substantial and checks all of the boxes for a collector-level specimen. The preserved enamel is highly lustrous on both sides of the blade, causing the ancient tooth to literally "glow" in the light. This specimen was a recent acquisition and is being consigned directly by the diver who found it.
Measurements: 5.76 x 4.05 x 1.14 inches (14.62 x 10.28 x 2.90 cm)
[Scale: 2-inch Great White tooth]
