Description

    Megalodon Shark Tooth
    Carcharocles megalodon
    Miocene
    Morgan River
    South Carolina, USA

This is simply a monstrous tooth from a gigantic, prehistoric shark. Megalodon was an apex predator which ruled the ancient oceans, and its fossilized teeth are readily identifiable. This serious specimen exhibits all the diagnostic features of Megalodon dentition superbly: large size, triangular shape, "V" neck, robust structure and fine serrations. Of course, size is a key characteristic in any evaluation of a shark tooth, and this massive version has that covered, measuring a full 6 inches (15 cm) on the edge. Being that size makes it much less common and much more collectible than other, smaller specimens. This tooth has an unusual "brindle" pattern and compelling mottled coloration with a combination of bluish-gray and golden-tan. Virtually complete from root to tip, this fossil is in superb condition, for a huge "Meg," with only the most minor of imperfections. The root is rugged in appearance which gives the tooth an added element of contrast. This is a major collector's specimen superlative in all criteria.
    Overall Measurements: 6.00 x 4.38 x 1.26 inches (15.24 x 11.12 x 3.21 cm)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
