Description

    Megalodon Shark Tooth
    Carcharocles megalodon
    Miocene
    Morgan River
    South Carolina, USA

This is a bona fide 6 inch (15.24 cm) fossil shark tooth which puts it in a special class. Of course, this fine piece has several other distinguishing characteristics. The smooth faces have a unique almost "brindle" pattern with a sinister, two-tone coloration of black and gray. The massive tooth is also rather wide and has a quite pronounced curvature from root to tip highlighting the very developed "killer" nature of the ominous piece of prehistoric dentition. The numerous serrations are razor-sharp up and down both of the enormous edges of the huge tooth. This significant example evidences the diagnostic characteristics of the apex Megalodon: large size, robust structure, fine serrations, visible V-shaped neck and triangular shape. Not surprisingly with the largest teeth of any known shark species, Megalodon was regarded as one of the most dominant predators in the history of all vertebrate species. This phenomenal tooth has a custom wood and brass stand which allows for impressive and secure display of this major specimen.
    Overall Measurements: 6.00 x 4.38 x 1.19 inches (15.24 x 11.12 x 3.03 cm)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]

    Estimate: $3,000 - $5,000.
