    Description

    Megalodon Shark Tooth
    Carcharocles megalodon
    Miocene
    Hawthorne Formation
    South Carolina, USA

This incredible fossil shark tooth measures just under 6 inches (15 cm) on edge and, of course, comes from the apex predator Megalodon. This big and bold example features a uniquely mottled "brindle" appearance and uncommon bluish coloration especially on the convex face. The width of the tooth is equally impressive, and the overall form is nicely balanced, with just a subtle curvature related to the placement in the jaw. The rustic enamel is well preserved, the bourlette is nearly complete and the root structure is complete with only some typical creasing. This tooth meets all five criteria of Megalodon dentition definitively: robust structure, huge size, sharp serrations, v-shaped neck and triangle shape.
    Overall Measurements: 5.89 x 4.52 x 1.23 inches (14.97 x 11.48 x 3.12 cm)

Note: Great White tooth for scale purposes only.

    [Scale: 2-inch Great White tooth]
