Description

Megalodon Shark Tooth
Otodus megalodon
Miocene
Morgan River
South Carolina, USA

This well-preserved fossil tooth comes from Otodus megalodon, the largest predatory shark known to science, believed to have reached lengths of over 50 feet. Dating to the Miocene Epoch, this tooth, measuring nearly 6 inches (15 cm) on the edge, offers a rare and tangible connection to one of Earth's most formidable marine apex predators. The specimen features excellent enamel preservation, showcasing a lustrous surface with sharply defined serrations along the edges-key indicators of feeding adaptations in this extinct species. Fossils of this caliber from the Morgan River region are highly sought after due to their exceptional condition and well-documented provenance. A fine and display-worthy example, ideal for collectors of marine fossils or paleontological showpieces.
