    Description

    Large Fossil Fish Sculpture
    Eocene
    Green River Formation
    Lincoln County, Wyoming, USA

This immense, inlay fossil fish sculpture is without question superlative simply for its immense size. The huge rock features a giant Diplomystus measuring a whopping 18 inches (45.72 cm) from tip to tail and about 21.5 inches (54.61 cm) along the curve of the arching fossil fish. The substantial, ancient, herring has a pronounced spinal column in stark relief on the matrix along the entire length of the massive fish. The textured shale matrix is rather colorful for Green River Formation shale and has a golden yellow hue adding to the charm of the decorative work of natural art. The matrix rock has a "flame" shape as it rises from its solid custom metal base on which it rests securely. The base is heavy but still allows the massive matrix to swivel easily allowing for viewing of the other side which is populated by two more Priscacara fossil fish! Both examples are 5.5 inches (13.97 cm) long. The two-sided nature of this specimen makes it such a fabulous decorative piece as it has two display faces. It would be an amazing accent piece in truly any d├ęcor, but its size really mandates that it be a focal point rather than just an accessory in the room, office or lobby in which it should reside. This is an immense specimen with a duality that is hard to find.
    Overall Measurements: 32.67 x 22.4 x 8.66 inches (83 x 57 x 22 cm)

    [Scale: 18 inch, 45 cm]

    Estimate: $5,000 - $7,000.
