Description

Irregular Inlay Accent Mural
Notogoneus sp. and Priscacara sp.
Eocene
Green River Formation
Lincoln County, Wyoming, USA

This impressive inlay fossil fish mural features a large, rare Notogoneus which measures 19.75 inches (50.17 cm) from tip to tail. The significant specimen is accompanied by three Priscacara of 5.5 inches (13.97 cm), 6.75 inches (17.15 cm) and 5.0 inches (12.7 cm) in length. The fossils on the irregular rock exhibit rich, dark mineralization. The multi-layered matrix features pronounced "varves" - layers which reveal the ancient marine environment of the famous Green River Formation. The background is tan to grayish-tan giving it a rather mottled appearance when combined with the intricate layering. The fossil specimens appear to have had a normal amount of very expert preparation and restoration. The large contoured rock is reinforced with a wood backing that is tapered from the irregular edge of the mural. The attractive piece has been fixed with a metal cleat and groove system to enable secure wall hanging. The mural comes with a Certificate of Authenticity about the piece and the fossils which are a part of it.
Overall Measurements: 36.75 x 24.5 x 1 inches (93.35 x 62.23 x 2.54 cm)
Stand shown in image for photo purposes only. Specimen does not come with a base.

[Scale: 18 inch, 45 cm]
