Freeform Fossil Fish Mural
Diplomystus sp., Mioplosus sp., Priscacara sp., and Knightia sp.
    Eocene, Green River Formation
    Wyoming, USA

In terms of larger specimens, with multiple fossil fish, freeform murals may be the most attractive as the natural aspect of the entire piece is retained, whereas framed versions can be geometric and often look contrived. This spectacular "collector sized" mural features a large Diplomysytus measuring 15.5 inches (39 cm) long, a Mioplosus measuring 9.5 inches (24 cm) and a Priscacara measuring 5.5 inches (14 cm), as well as three other smaller fossil fish specimens. As far as the preservation goes, the fossil fish are quite dark, especially the large ones. They really stand out against the tan and gray matrix rock. The seasonal layers, known as "varves," are very pronounced adding a further textural dimension to this otherwise mostly two-dimensional mural. The rock is fully backed with a graduated wooden reinforcing and is fitted with a metal cleating system for wall hanging. This impressive piece will be the focus of any d├ęcor, and the assemblage of fossil fish specimens comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
    Overall Measurements: 51.0 x 28.0 inches (129.5 x 71.1 cm)
