Free-Form Fossil Fish Mural
Notogoneus sp., Priscacara liops, Diplomystus dentatus & Knightia eocaena
    Green River Formation
    Wyoming, USA

This gigantic inlay fossil fish mural features a "school" of several different varieties from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. A monstrous 20.5 inch (52.07 cm) Notogoneus is the definitive specimen on the large decorative piece, but there are eight fossil fish on this huge mural including a Priscacara measuring 10.5 inches (26.67 cm) and a Diplomystus measuring 12.5 inches (31.75 cm), as well as five small Knightia rounding out this prehistoric aquatic scene. Some 40 to 50 million years ago, a series of freshwater lakes were home to numeous fish from a variety of species. A combination of natural phenomena resulted in the locality becoming a sort of "fossil factory" producing fossil fish in a prolific manner. The fine preservation is obvious, and the fossil fish are a rich, dark brown against a light tan sedimentary shale matrix in which they have been preserved. The fossils were expertly prepared as part of the presentation in this artwork.

This monstrous mural is fully reinforced with a thick wooden backing and is also fitted with a cleat and groove system for secure wall hanging. The huge specimen will be a showpiece in any d├ęcor. This rustic example of natural artwork is as impressive for its colossal size as it is for the quality of the fossils on it. This is a serious fossil plate designed to be the focus of any room or office.
    Overall Measurements: 79.25 x 40.50 x 1.50 inches (201.29 x 102.87 x 3.81 cm)

    Estimate: $10,000 - $15,000.
