Description
Fossil StingrayCyclobatis oligodactylus
Cretaceous
Haqil, Byblos, Lebanon
There is certainly something inherently "cute" about extremely small examples of typically larger items. This fossil stingray, for example, is not actually terribly small; it is just unusually visually appealing as its "fan" only measures 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter. This little wonder from the quarries of Lebanon is extremely highly detailed, although it has clearly had some substantial restoration to result in a complete and radial form that nearly fills the square matrix rock in which it was found. The brownish fossil, with just a hint of a reddish hue, is quite appealing. The sedimentary background has several repaired fractures visible under ultraviolet light and is fully backed for stability. The ray comes with a detailed Certificate of Authenticity.
Overall Measurements: 5.51 x 4.84 x 0.50 inches (14.00 x 12.30 x 1.28 cm)
