Description

Fossil Sawshark
Sclerorynchus sp.
Cretaceous
Ajoula, Lebanon

A rare and exceptionally well-preserved fossil Sawshark, Sclerorynchus sp., from the Cretaceous deposits of Ajoula, Lebanon. Sawsharks first appeared during the Age of Dinosaurs, and are characterized by their elongated, slender bodies and distinctive toothed rostra, or "saws," used for detecting and capturing prey. This specimen is notable for its remarkable articulation and soft-tissue preservation, features seldom seen in cartilaginous fish fossils. The fine-grained Lebanese Limestone beautifully retains both anatomical and textural detail, offering a vivid glimpse into Cretaceous marine life. An outstanding and scientifically important example, combining rarity, completeness, and exceptional preservation from one of the world's premier fossil localities.
Overall Measurements: 35.00 x 30.00 x 1.00 inches (88.90 x 76.20 x 2.54 cm)

Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern California Collector
