    Description

    FOSSIL PIPEFISH
    Albian, Cretaceous
    KemKem, Morocco
    5.27 x 4.76 x 1.17 inches (13.4 x 12.1 x 2.98 cm)

While fossil fish are certainly one of the most prolific and recognizable of all the vertebrate fossils, it is the rare and unique varieties that tend to garner the most attention. Here is a fossil Pipefish from the famed Kem Kem fossil beds of Morocco which recently saw publicity due to the work on the Dinosaur Spinosaurus. This unique fish is very well preserved and sits elegantly upon the matrix rock in a curved "horseshoe" shape relief. Coming from such a rugged desert locality, it is almost hard to belief this area was once a great ocean populated by such unusual creatures as this superb Moroccan fossil specimen.
