Palm fronds are another type of fossil found in the Green River Formation but not very often. The large plant remnants are some of the most sought after and artistic specimens to come out of the renowned Lagerstätte. This arch-shaped block of sedimentary rock hosts the top of a palm frond featuring several dark leaves pointing up in a radiating fashion from the core. The matrix also has two nice fossil fish that shared the same aquatic environment with the plant. Many larger fossil plates from Green River exhibit inlay fossils, which has become a generally accepted practice but does still involve authentic specimens. This giant plate is designed for wall hanging with brackets and will surely be a focal point in most rooms. The dark and oily fossil palm and fish stand out nicely, even against the darker mottled brownish matrix.
