Description
Fossil FishPhareodus testis
Eocene
Green River Formation
Wyoming, USA
One of the rarer varieties of fossil fish out of the famed Green River Formation in Wyoming, Phareodus was a predatory genus that patrolled the interconnected freshwater lakes dating back to the Eocene. A nice example of the type, this representation measures 7 inches (18 cm) from tip to tail and features an impressive amount of original bony material that is well preserved and has been expertly restored. On a thick and irregular block of sedimentary matrix, the 'revealed' fossil fish contrasts with the mottled rock.
Overall Measurements: 11.42 x 9.57 x 0.98 inches (29.00 x 24.30 x 2.50 cm)
Donated by Anthony Lindgren/Lindgren Fossils
Proceeds to benefit the AAPS
Estimate: $500 - up.
