Description
Fossil Fish PairMioplosus sp.
Eocene
Green River Formation
Wyoming, USA
9.33 x 5.43 x 1.07 inches (23.70 x 13.80 x 2.71 cm)
This light tan limestone matrix presents a striking pair of fossil fish preserved in sharp contrast against the surrounding stone. Both specimens belong to the extinct predatory genus Mioplosus, a swift freshwater hunter of the Green River Formation, and display confident body outlines with well-defined fins and powerful tail structures. Measuring approximately 5 inches (13 cm) and 5.30 inches (13.5 cm) in length, the fish are generously sized and beautifully positioned, creating a dynamic and visually engaging composition across the plate. Subtle surface texture and natural color variation within the matrix enhance the presentation while allowing the fossils to remain the focal point. This compelling dual specimen captures the alert, streamlined form of Mioplosus and offers an excellent example of the dramatic preservation for which Green River fish are renowned.
Estimate: $300 - up.
