Description
Fossil Fish MuralPhareodus testis, Diplomystus dentatus & Knightia eocaena
Eocene
Green River Formation
Wyoming, USA
An exquisitely decorative and impactful mural of stone from the renowned Green River Formation, this massive wood channel framed example measuring some 70 inches (178 cm) wide by 43 inches (109 cm) tall offers a variety of incredible inlaid fossils from the world-famous locality. The two obvious "stars" of the ancient aquatic diorama are a rare, predatory Phareodus measuring 16 inches (41 cm) in length and a beautiful Diplomystus measuring 15 inches (38 cm) long. The dark fish display outstanding details and have obviously been expertly prepared. Both brownish fish contrast severely with the mottled matrix that is spectacularly unusual featuring an array of hues including gold, gray, tan, and white as well as its visible "varve" layering resulting in a most visually dramatic specimen of natural artwork. Three smaller fossil Knightia fish measuring some 5 inches (13 cm) in length each accompany the other larger fossils on the expansive mural. Ready for a wall hanging installation, this decorative work is certain to impress.
Overall Measurements: 70.00 x 43.00 x 2.00 inches (177.80 x 109.22 x 5.08 cm)
