Description

Fossil Fish Mural
Phareodus testis, Cockerellites liops, & Knightia eocaena
Eocene
Green River Formation
Wyoming, USA

This irregular, unframed fossil fish mural is simply gorgeous, with a natural elegance to its shape and form. The sedimentary matrix from the Fossil Lake Classic stone layer of the famous Green River Formation boasts multiple "varves," layering the surface with a subtle dimensionality. The rocky background contains five inlaid fish of different varieties, including a larger rare predatory Phareodus testis measuring a whopping 12 inches (30.5 cm) from tip to tail. A sizable, although smaller, Cockerellites liops measuring 4 inches (10 cm) from tip to tail and a couple of Knightia eocaena round out this aquatic assortment. This substantial, wooden-backed mural weighs 20 kilograms (44 pounds) and was fitted with a metal cleat system for safe and secure installation. With tan and beige shades in the rock, the rich brown fossil fish contrasts well against the matrix. With a height of 36 inches (91 cm) and a width of 27 inches (69 cm), this is large - and dramatic.
Overall Measurements: 36.00 x 27.00 x 1.50 inches (91.44 x 68.58 x 3.81 cm)
