Description

Fossil Fish Mural
Diplomystus dentatus, Cockerellites liops, & Knightia eocaena
Eocene
Green River Formation
Wyoming, USA

This horizontally oriented fossil fish slab originated from the Green River Formation Lagerstätte of Wyoming, specifically the renowned "Ash Layer," celebrated for its finely preserved lacustrine fossils. The composition is anchored by a prominent Diplomystus measuring 17 inches (43 cm) from tip to tail, its elongated form and skeletal detail clearly defined against the matrix. Surrounding it are several smaller fish, of the Cockerellites and Knightia genus, artfully distributed across the surface, creating the impression of a natural aquatic scene frozen in time. The matrix itself displays a rich interplay of layered textures and mottled coloration, characteristic of Green River Eocene deposits and enhancing the artistic quality of the piece. Stabilized on the reverse and fitted with a wooden French cleat system, the specimen is prepared for display as a striking and scientifically informative wall-mounted centerpiece.
Overall Measurements: 55.00 x 22.00 x 2.75 inches (139.70 x 55.88 x 6.98 cm)
