Description

Fossil Fish Mural
Diplomystus dentatus & Knightia eocaena
Eocene
Green River Formation
Wyoming, USA

This quite sizable fossil fish mural contains three iconic examples of marine life from the renowned aquatic Green River Lagerstätte in Wyoming. A relatively massive Diplomystus, measuring some 11 inches (28 cm) from tip to tail, anchors the ancient diorama, dating to the Eocene Epoch. The larger herring-like fossil is dark and rich in coloration, with an abundance of intricate detail. The other two smaller fish of the more common Knightia variety are lighter brown in hue and about half the size of the monstrous "Diplo" that dominates the sedimentary matrix with mottled coloration and a varied texture. A statement piece with a rustic aspect, the mural is ready to be displayed as a centerpiece in any suitable room or décor. Expert restoration has revealed the trio of freshwater fish in this rock.
Overall Measurements: 21.65 x 11.81 x 0.71 inches (55.00 x 30.00 x 1.80 cm)
