This great plate contains a large fossil fish of the Diplomystus variety from the acclaimed Green River Formation in Wyoming. Measuring over 8.5 inches (22 cm) from tip to tail, this is one extremely substantial example of the herring-like type. The block of sedimentary matrix is full of layers, adding an artistic and visually striking contrast beyond just the dark brown color of the fossil against the stark rock. The offering is a wonderful combination of exceptional preservation, immense size, and rich coloration.
