Green River Formation, Wyoming, USA
Crayfish are freshwater crustaceans that resemble lobsters and inhabit brooks, streams, and other ecosystems that have fresh moving water. The presence of crayfish fossils in the Green River Formation, such as the present specimen, suggests that the lacustrine environment of Wyoming 48 million years ago was very clean and had fresh moving water. This specimen is very well preserved with distinct segmented body and tail, several legs, claws, and antennae. The crayfish measures 1 3/8 inches on a tan limestone matrix measuring 3 x 2 inches.
Estimate: $300 - $400.
