    FINE MEGA-SHARK TOOTH
    Carcharocles megalodon
    Miocene
    May River, South Carolina
    The mighty Miocene Megalodon dwarfed its equivalent in today's waters, the Great White Shark, and was the largest carnivorous fish ever to have swum in the oceans of our planet. It is reckoned that every inch of tooth indicates 10 feet of overall length, so even a comparatively mid-sized example such as this would indicate a 50-foot monster; its mouth bristling with rows of these monstrous tearing and rending tools it would have been a horrifying beast to encounter in the briny deep. No surprise, therefore that these teeth are highly sought after by fossil collectors, and this is an excellent example. It boasts full enamel coverage in an attractive pale tan and gray with superb serrations, and measures a full 5 inches along the diagonal edge.
