DescriptionFINE FOSSIL FISH PLAQUE
Priscacara liops, Knightia alta
Green River Formation, Wyoming
This beautifully simple plaque displays two of the familiar inhabitants of the famed "Fossil Lake" of the Green River Formation in Wyoming. Over 35 million years ago, the area of Lincoln County was a series of interconnected freshwater lakes, home to an abundant variety of marine and vegetable life. Today the area represents one of the richest and best preserved formations in the fossil record. The fish included here display the unparalleled skill of the local preparators in uncovering every detail of the animals' fine bony structure and the beautiful aesthetic contrast of the dark brown fossils "swimming" in an expanse of cream-colored limestone. The plaque is framed and ready for hanging, 43½ x 25½ inches.
