Description

Pyritized Crinoid Fossil
Seirocrinus subangularis
Jurassic
Posidonienschiefer Formation
Holzmaden, Germany

In its original black shale matrix and exhibiting no visible restoration, this singular example of the Crinoid Seirocrinus is both extremely artistic and highly collectible. Vertically filling the entire rocky block, which houses it, the exceptionally preserved fossil features a relatively massive flowering crown replete with a myriad of flowing arms and pinnules as well as an elongated partial stalk often missing from such fossils. The inherent metallic appearance of the preservation against the mysterious and dark background does result in a most appealing offering. The fossil tilts organically to one side, and the nicely oriented sizable example will look as impressive in a display case as it would on a wall or displayed on a flat surface. This is a classic from an important locality - the Posidonia Shale of the Holzmaden Lagerstätte in Germany - further adding to its artistic appeal.
Overall Measurements: 10.63 x 7.87 x 0.59 inches (27.00 x 20.00 x 1.50 cm)
