This fossil starfish specimen is large measuring some 7 inches (18 cm) at its widest from one tip across to another. The massive, pentagonal echinoderm is quite well-preserved with pronounced "grooved" arms which splay out from the geometric center. The golden fossil is centrally perched on a matrix of tan rock which has been carved out to highlight the ancient starfish. The background is a contrasting lighter color than the rest of the rock which sets the fossil apart dramatically. There is slight visible evidence of one fissure which has been expertly repaired which ran through the rock including two of the five arms. This robust example of a Petraster starfish has both significant size and rather well-defined crisp detail.
