Description
Fossil EchinoidPhymasoma sp.
Cretaceous
Goodland Formation
Mills County, Texas, USA
1.32 x 1.28 x 0.78 inches (3.35 x 3.25 x 1.97 cm)
Measuring just over 1 inch (2.5 cm) across, this appealing fossil Echinoid preserves the distinctive domed form and textured surface that make ancient sea urchins so recognizable to collectors. Recovered from the Cretaceous-aged Goodland Formation of Texas, the specimen displays clearly defined ambulacral rows and rounded tubercles across the pale cream-colored test. Fine surface detail remains visible throughout the fossil and gives the piece a wonderfully tactile quality despite the compact size. Natural variation in preservation and coloration adds warmth and character while highlighting the intricate geometry of the original shell. Modest in scale, yet full of visual charm, this well-preserved Phymasoma offers an engaging glimpse into the marine life of the ancient Western Interior Seaway.
