This square Fossil Crinoid plate features 10 individual specimens preserved on a compact slab from the Mississippian-aged Gilmore City Formation of Iowa. Dating to more than 300 million years ago, this formation is known for fossil-rich marine Limestones deposited in a shallow tropical sea that once covered much of the Midcontinent. Careful preparation has revealed the delicate structure of these ancient echinoderms, whose soft gray coloration closely matches the surrounding matrix and gives the piece a natural, cohesive look. Each partial crinoid shows the familiar flower-like crown of radiating arms, with sections of stem still visible beneath, recalling an anchored life on the Paleozoic seafloor. As a multi-specimen display from a classic Carboniferous locality, the plate offers both visual appeal and a clear illustration of the abundance of crinoid life during the Mississippian.
