Description

Fossil Crinoid
Encrinus liliiformis
Middle Triassic
Germany

This beautifully preserved specimen of Encrinus liliiformis-one of the most iconic crinoids of the Triassic period-displays exceptional detail in its finely articulated calyx (crown), the central feeding structure of the organism. The fossil has been expertly prepared to highlight delicate anatomical features, including individual brachials and cup plates, offering an extraordinary glimpse into the morphology of this extinct marine echinoderm. Encrinus liliiformis thrived in the shallow seas of what is now Central Europe during the Middle Triassic, and is among the best-known fossil crinoids due to the frequency and quality of its preservation in the Limestone deposits of Germany. This specimen stands out for its clarity, scientific interest, and visual elegance-making it an ideal addition to both academic and private collections focused on Paleozoic and Mesozoic marine life.
Overall Measurements: 5.00 x 3.75 x 1.57 inches (12.70 x 9.53 x 4.00 cm)

Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern California Collector
