Description

Fossil Crinoid & Gastropod Mortality Plate
Scytalocrinus robustus, Histocrinus coreyi, Scytalocrinus decadactylus (x3), Onychocrinus ulrichi, Sarocrinus varsovensis, Platyceras equilateralis, Pachylocrinus aequalis (x3), Saccosomopsis insperatus, Barycrinus sp., Cyathocrinites iowensis, & Agariococ

This exceptional Fossil Crinoid plate originates from the Mississippian-aged Edwardsville Formation of Crawfordsville, Indiana, a locality renowned for some of the finest preserved echinoderms in the fossil record. Formed approximately 340 million years ago in a shallow inland sea, these deposits record episodes of sudden burial that produced remarkable mass mortality assemblages.

The slab preserves a dense concentration representing approximately 13 crinoid species, with calyces, stems, arms, and columnals interwoven across a classic gray Limestone matrix. A single inverted fossil gastropod shell adds ecological context and diversity to the composition. Expert preparation has revealed fine morphological detail while maintaining the integrity of the original fossil, resulting in a scientifically important and visually compelling example from one of North America's most storied Paleozoic localities.
Overall Measurements: 9.84 x 8.35 x 0.76 inches (25.00 x 21.20 x 1.93 cm)

Estimate: $1,500 - up.
