Description

Triceratops Brow Horn
Triceratops horridus
Late Cretaceous
Hell Creek Formation
Montana, USA

Measuring over 23 inches (58.4 cm), the most obvious attribute of this spectacular Triceratops horn is the extreme length. Expertly prepared and in such a way as to have retained the rustic and rugged nature and texture of the 'bony' core of the readily identifiable protrusion. The mottled coloration of light and dark colors, coupled with the inherent wood-like appearance, combine to make this horn a specimen of note, but it may be the rather tapered shape that offers the most elegance to this finer fossil from the Late Cretaceous of Montana. From the famous Hell Creek Formation and presented on a custom black metal cradle armature with an appealing display angle, this example, weighing a robust 13 pounds (5.9 kilograms), is beyond impressive. As if a nearly 2-foot-long "Trike" horn would not be enough of a find, this solid brow horn from Triceratops horridus is a superlative specimen of the iconic feature of the universally popular ceratopsian dinosaur. This is one excellent brow horn.
Horn Measurements: 23.23 x 6.69 x 4.72 inches (59.00 x 17.00 x 12.00 cm)
