Description
Polished "Gem" Hadrosaurid Dinosaur Vertebra PairKritosaurus sp.
Late Cretaceous
Aguja Formation
Brewster County, Texas, USA
A pretty amazing Dinosaur vertebra in its own right, this fossilized bone evidenced great shape, nice form, and pleasing reddish-brown, mottled coloration. Of course, this has been cut into essentially a matched pair, with each half displaying a spectacular, polished window face showcasing a nicely preserved trabecular structure of the "gem" bone. Found on private ranch lands in West Texas, the fossil pairing dating to the Late Cretaceous represents the Kritosaurus variety, of which only seven have been found in the Aguja Formation. Discovered with a backhoe operation, the preservation is the result of close proximity to an extinct hydrothermal vent. This is quite unusual for a Texas find. The reflectively finished faces display a pleasing brownish coloration and intricate patterning over the fairly sizable primary surfaces. The exterior features of each specimen are equally impressive.
Larger Half Measurements: 5.29 x 4.11 x 1.94 inches (13.44 x 10.44 x 4.94 cm)
More Information: The accompanying image is an artistic interpretation, based on knowledge from the fossil record and ancillary factors, of the potential appearance of the above extinct animal. Please note the rendering does not accompany the Lot.
