While not technically a Dinosaur - all of which lived on land - the Mosasaur was a giant aquatic reptile that dominated the ancient oceans. During the Late Cretaceous, when Dinosaurs like Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus rex roamed the earth, Mosasaurs populated the seas as an apex predator. With teeth somewhat rounded that terminate in a point, they were ideally adapted for eating prey including the shelled creatures that shared their environment. Their teeth, coupled with incredible biting strength, made them a formidable predator. These large lizards grew to lengths of almost 60 feet with a skull approaching 6 feet! It is no wonder Mosasaurs were considered the T. rex of the prehistoric seas.
