Description
Dinosaur TrackwayEubrontes sp. & Anchisauripus
Early Jurassic
Portland Formation
South Hadley, Massachusetts, USA
Trace fossils like footprints are bona fide representations of past life through the fossil record, but super examples like this trackway showcasing numerous prints, multiple varieties, and excellent aesthetics are few and far between. This colossal and naturally artistic, reddish-brown, rocky matrix contains imprints from two Dinosaurs: Eubrontes and Anchisauripus. Presented with a custom metal armature to feature the fossil assemblage in museum form, the important specimen is visually dramatic and very significant. The inherent contrast of the massive footprint against the relatively diminutive size of the smaller print results in a visible juxtaposition of epic proportions! Such footprints are virtually always lightly 'dyed' to give the imprints some color saturation against the similarly colored rocky matrix. Out of the famed Portland Formation and the world-renowned locality in South Hadley, Massachusetts, this specimen is singular in nature, outstanding in quality and sublime in form. The positive association footprint of the smaller trace fossil comes with the offering, and remnants of other partial imprints are visible on the rock. This is one "Dino-sized" example of footprints that actually tell a compelling story of life and potentially death in the Early Jurassic. This could be a centerpiece in most Dinosaur collections.
