This substantial block of hard sedimentary rock contains a superb and spectacular single footprint of an ichnogenus dinosaur known as Grallator. Dating to the Early Jurassic and out of the Portland Formation in Massachusetts, this specimen has two key attributes. First, unlike so many other examples, this print is undyed. Second, the track has dramatic claw detail, with the trio of digits terminating in sharp points. Unusually deep, this example of the trace fossil from the theropod variety is visually dramatic. The face of the rock is highly textural with accents of "sparkle" over the undulating exterior. The print from tip to base measures some 7 inches (18 cm) in length, and the overall golden-brown piece shows one fracture visible outside the indentation at an angle against the top right corner, which has been expertly repaired.
