Description
Dinosaur FemurUnknown Sauropod
Jurassic
North Africa
This beautifully preserved femur, or thigh bone, derives from one of the giant Sauropod dinosaurs that roamed North Africa during the Jurassic Epoch. Sauropods were the true titans of their age-the largest land animals ever to have existed-characterized by their immense bodies, long, whip-like tails that counterbalanced extraordinarily elongated necks, small heads with nostrils positioned above the eyes, and pencil-shaped teeth designed for stripping vegetation. The present specimen represents an exceptional example of Sauropod anatomy, notable for its size, proportion, and completeness. The robust curvature of the femur reflects the immense weight it once supported, while the beautifully preserved and expertly prepared bone surface reveals both texture and mineralization from millions of years of fossilization. Mounted on a custom steel display base, this impressive specimen measures 45.5 x 14 inches (bone only) (115 x 35 cm) and 56.5 inches (143 cm) in height overall. Its monumental presence and scientific importance make it a striking centerpiece for any advanced vertebrate fossil collection or natural history display.
Overall Measurements: 56.50 x 26.00 x 24.00 inches (143.51 x 66.04 x 60.96 cm)
Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern California Collector
