Description

Dinosaur Bone Section with Crystal Cavity
    Jurassic
    Morrison Formation
    Utah, USA

Obviously, this specimen of Dinosaur Bone is not an example of "gem" material, or even suitable for cutting, but it is a rather unique and interesting piece in its own right. It is a section of bone with mineral deposits in the interior, including some fairly large crystals! The exterior is preserved with the rugged outer look and feel of rough material. This appears as if it could be a section of horn core from the brow horn of a Triceratops. Certainly, if this were to be the case, this piece would be Cretaceous rather than Jurassic and likely not out of the famous Morrison Formation in Utah. The Hell Creek Formation in Montana would be a more likely spot for this to have been found. Regardless, this is essentially a three-dimensional "cross-section" showing the mineral replaced interior while still exhibiting the rough exterior of bone, or horn core. This section is 6.5 inches (16.51 cm) across and very interesting from all angles. As an unpolished specimen, this intriguing "oddity" would be pretty hard to beat.
    Overall Measurements: 6.5 x 3.3 x 2.8 inches (16.5 x 8.5 x 7.2 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.
