Description

Sliced Ammonite Half
Pachydiscus sp.
Cretaceous
Madagascar

Size and shape combine to make this fossil such an amazing specimen. This robust Pachydiscus has been cut in half to reveal a geometric and colorful internal structure featuring chambers of golden-yellow and brown mineral replacement and grayish-green sediments. A massive piece, at virtually 13 inches (33 cm) at a maximum diameter, this extremely thick fossil exhibits a complex suture patterning over its exterior which is smooth and curved with the exception of its circular "whorl" which is a sugary and grainy silver. Ammonites have an undeniable beauty with some cut and polished specimens making some of the most attractive of all invertebrate fossils. This massive example has huge decorative appeal. Considered naturally-occurring versions of the Golden Ratio of the Fibonacci Sequence by some, these highly unique and ornamental fossils can certainly be used to enhance any living space whether it be Feng Shui or not.
Overall Measurements: 12.75 x 10.50 x 3.25 inches (32.38 x 26.67 x 8.25 cm)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
